Good Fortune Boost: Feng Shui Guide
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice of creating harmony and balance in your surroundings. You can also use Feng Shui to attract good luck and prosperity. I tell my clients that a goal of Feng Shui is to increase their “surface area” for luck. That is, they can purposefully create more possibilities for positive opportunities to flow into their lives.
I really like that phrase: “increase your surface area for luck.” It reminds me that not everything is dependent upon hard work – but we also can’t leave everything up to chance. Instead, we need to apply effort towards the areas in our lives that will most increase our chances for luck.
Clear the Clutter
The best way to increase your surface area for luck is by keeping your environment clean and clutter-free. Clutter blocks the flow of lucky energy in your home. By contrast, when you keep your home organized, you feel organized and accomplished. You’re also creating more space for positive energy to flow in.
Have you ever been invited into someone’s car or home that was incredibly cluttered? At first glance, would you trust them with an important area of your life, like being your bookkeeper or managing your business? If you have clutter all around you, take a moment to think about how it impacts the perception that others might have of you. Is your clutter potentially preventing you from getting opportunities for good fortune?
Add Lucky Symbols
Another way to increase your surface area for luck is by adding symbols of good fortune to your home. For example, you can place a money tree in your home, which some interpret as a symbol of abundance. Such symbols act as a reminder of your goals so you can attract positive energy to your home.
Frankly, regardless the symbol, it needs to be something that YOU subconsciously believe is a sign of good fortune that will encourage you to take additional small steps every day to achieve your goals. I personally love and highly recommend vision boards for this reason.
Open the Door to Good Luck
In Feng Shui, the front door is the “mouth of chi.” It’s truly the main entrance for positive energy to enter your home. Keep your front door clean and well-maintained (good fit, no squeaks, etc.) to create a positive first impression, which invites in good luck. Placing a wind chime here might enhance the flow of positive energy, but it will certainly also remind you of your goals each time you hear it chime in the wind.
What’s the Color for Luck?
Choosing the right colors for the appropriate areas of your home can also increase your surface area for luck. Different colors are associated with different meanings and energies in Feng Shui and psychology. For example, red is associated with good luck and good reputation, while blue is associated with tranquility and peace. When you add these colors to your home decor, you can attract positive energy to enhance the flow of luck. Be sure to follow the Feng Shui bagua to learn about proper placement of these colors.
Next Steps
Increasing your surface area for luck is an important aspect of Feng Shui. By keeping your environment clutter-free, adding symbols of good fortune, keeping a positive first impression with your front door, and using the right colors, you can attract good luck in your life. Remember, the key to success in Feng Shui is to create balance and harmony in your surroundings.

10 Simple Feng Shui Tips for Attracting Positive Energy to Your Home
Feng shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy that focuses on the balance and flow of energy, or qi, in a space. When I work with home builders, I always work with them to ensure that this energy flows freely through their communities, but it is ultimately up to you to take it from there. By aligning the energy in your home with the principles of feng shui, you can create a harmonious and positive environment. Here are 10 simple feng shui tips to help you attract positive energy to your home:
- Declutter regularly: Clutter can block the flow of positive energy in your home. Make an effort to declutter regularly and get rid of items you no longer use or need.
- Bring in natural light: Natural light is a source of positive energy, so try to let as much of it into your home as possible. Open your curtains and blinds during the day, and consider adding skylights or windows to help brighten up dark rooms.
- Incorporate plants: Plants are a natural source of positive energy and can help purify the air in your home. Consider adding a few houseplants to your space to bring in some extra positive vibes.
- Choose colors wisely: Different colors can have different effects on the energy in a space. Soft, neutral colors are calming and can create a sense of peace, while bright colors can bring energy and vibrancy. Choose colors that reflect the energy you want to cultivate in your home.
- Hang mirrors strategically: Mirrors can help amplify and reflect positive energy, so consider hanging them in areas where you want to increase the flow of qi. Avoid hanging mirrors opposite doors, as they can reflect negative energy back into the space.
- Display meaningful artwork: Art has the power to transform a space and bring positive energy. Choose artwork that has personal meaning to you and display it prominently in your home.
- Keep the front entrance clear: The front entrance of your home is the first thing people see when they arrive and is an important area for the flow of qi. Keep it clear of clutter and make sure the space is well-lit and welcoming.
- Choose comfortable furniture: Furniture that is comfortable and inviting can help create a positive and welcoming atmosphere in your home. Avoid sharp edges and choose pieces that are soft and comfortable to sit on.
- Create a peaceful bedroom: The bedroom is a place for rest and relaxation, so it’s important to create a peaceful and calming atmosphere. Choose soothing colors, eliminate clutter, and add comfortable bedding and pillows to encourage a good night’s sleep.
- Incorporate water elements: Water is a symbol of prosperity and abundance in feng shui, so consider adding a water feature like a fountain or aquarium to your home. Just be sure to place it in an area that won’t disturb your sleep.
By following these simple feng shui tips, you can create a home that is full of positive energy and harmony. Remember to keep an open mind and have fun with it – the most important thing is to create a space that feels good to you.

Feng Shui for Valentine’s Day!
Valentine’s Day is a special day for couples to celebrate their love and affection for one another. But for those who are single or looking to improve their current relationships, it can be a difficult time. Fortunately, feng shui offers a variety of ways to attract love and romance into your life just as it did in mine. As a feng shui consultant, finding love has often been the most likely reason why people contact me for advice.
Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice that uses the principles of energy flow and balance to create harmony in your living space. By making small changes to your home or office, you can improve the energy in your relationships and attract positive energy for love and romance.
One of the most important areas of your home to focus on is the Love and Relationship sector. This area is associated with love and relationships, and is considered to be the most important area to focus on when looking to attract a partner or improve an existing relationship.
To activate this sector, you can place items like love symbols, such as hearts or happy couples, in this area. You can also use the colors red and pink to decorate this area, as they are associated with love and passion.
Another important area to focus on is the bedroom. The bedroom is where you spend a lot of time, and is where you will be most intimate with your partner. To create a harmonious and romantic energy in your bedroom, you can use the colors red and pink, as well as place symbols of love, such as hearts or happy couples. You can also place a picture of you and your partner in the bedroom, as it will create a strong connection between the two of you. Try to keep everything such as matching bedside tables, lamps, throw pillows and towels in pairs, even if you are currently single.
In addition to these tips, you can also use feng shui to improve your own energy and attract love and romance. You can do this by keeping your living space clean and clutter-free, as clutter can block the flow of energy. You can also focus on self-care, such as taking care of your appearance and dressing nicely, as this will make you feel more confident and attractive.
Feng shui offers a variety of ways to attract love and romance into your life this Valentine’s Day. By making small changes to your home and focusing on the Love and Relationship sector, as well as your bedroom, you can improve the energy in your relationships and attract positive energy for love and romance.

Creating a Vision Board: Using Feng Shui to Manifest Your Goals and Desires
A vision board, also known as a dream board or a goal board, is a visual representation of your goals, desires, and aspirations. In the practice of feng shui, creating a vision board can be a powerful tool for manifesting your intentions and bringing abundance and prosperity into your life. Here’s how to create a vision board using feng shui principles:
- Identify your goals and desires. Before you begin creating your vision board, take some time to reflect on your goals and desires. What do you want to achieve in your personal or professional life? What are your dreams and aspirations? Write down your goals and keep them in mind as you create your dream board.
- Gather ideas & materials for your vision board. You can use a variety of materials to create your vision board, such as magazine clippings, photographs, quotes, drawings, or other items that represent your goals and desires. You can also use a pre-made board or create your own by using a corkboard or foam board, especially if you see yourself updating your goals often. If you’re better at computers than arts & crafts, organize using your favorite software and get it printed, though this method requires a new print with each update to your goals.
- Arrange your vision board. When arranging the elements on your vision board, consider the feng shui principles of balance, symmetry, and flow. Try to create a visually pleasing and harmonious arrangement that represents your goals and desires. Be sure no area is too overpowering.
- Choose a location for your vision board. In feng shui, it’s important to choose a location for your vision board that is visible and accessible, but not necessarily in a high-traffic area. For most people, a good spot might be a bedroom wall or a home office. One school of thought is that a vision board is highly personal and that anyone questioning their goals may prevent them from becoming a reality (you may want to de-clutter these people out of your life). Another thought is that supportive friends and relatives who see your goals may help you achieve them (keep these people close).
- Visualize and affirm your goals. As you create your vision board, take a few moments to close your eyes and visualize your goals and desires as if they have already been achieved. Repeat affirmations such as “I am thankful, worthy and deserving of my goals” or “I am thankful, successful and prosperous in all areas of my life.” Be sure to phrase them in a way like they have already happened and use gratitude frequently. I repeat my affirmations while looking at my vision board once or twice daily.
By creating a vision board and using visualization and affirmations, you can harness the power of feng shui to manifest your goals and bring abundance and prosperity into your life. Don’t stop with yourself – give each member of your household an opportunity to create their own vision board and work together to help each of you achieve those goals!
Want to go next level? Think of your entire home as a vision board using the Bagua layout to focus on different areas of your life.

Feng Shui for the 2023 Lunar New Year
I love Lunar New Year! It always brings a sense of new beginnings for me. This year, Lunar New Year starts on January 22nd and I can’t wait!
The Lunar New Year is a time of renewal and celebration, and incorporating feng shui principles into your home and office can help you welcome in the new year with positive energy and good fortune. Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice that involves the arrangement of objects and space to create a harmonious and balanced environment.
One way to celebrate the Lunar New Year with feng shui is by using the colors and symbols associated with the Year of the Water Rabbit, which is the animal sign for 2023. The Water Rabbit is associated with the element of water, which is believed to bring flow and flexibility to a space. Water is also associated with the Career / Business / Life Path, so if you want to bring the energy of the Water Rabbit into your home or office, consider adding elements of water or using the colors black or blue in the front area of your space.
Other feng shui tips to apply before the Lunar New Year include:
- Clean and declutter your home or office to welcome in the new year with a fresh start
- Display objects that symbolize luck and prosperity for you
- Add some fresh flowers and fresh fruit to rejuvenate the aroma in your space
- Enhance the lighting by replacing any dead lightbulbs and cleaning your light fixtures
- Light incense or burn white sage to purify and cleanse the energy in your space
By incorporating these feng shui practices into your home or office, you can welcome in the Lunar New Year with positive energy and good fortune. Happy Lunar New Year!

Home Buying Checklist for Good Feng Shui
When the real estate market was hot, it was difficult to even get an offer in on a home. You couldn’t be picky because you would lose a bidding war for a home with good Feng Shui. When interest rates and home inventory are on the rise, it’s even more difficult to sell a home. But that’s a good thing if you’re looking to buy a home with great Feng Shui.
When I work with home builders, I advise against site plans that include cul-de-sacs, T-intersections, overhead power lines, etc. This is especially important in Feng Shui aware areas. If home builders don’t take my advice, they are forced to significantly reduce pricing to unload bad Feng Shui homes. But how do we know what homes for resale have good or bad Feng Shui?
Why Feng Shui?
If you’re not a believer in Feng Shui, that’s fine. Please note, however, that most of the Feng Shui suggestions I provide also have more modern and practical reasoning. Additionally, you can sell a home with good Feng Shui faster and for more money. You like money, don’t you?
The following checklist will help if you’re looking to buy or build a home with good Feng Shui. However, this is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all that is good or bad in Feng Shui. Avoid homes that don’t keep with the checklist below. This is your best option because such home issues are difficult to remedy. Any issues missing from this list are likely relatively easy to cure later during an individualized Feng Shui consultation. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Street Location
⬜ No Corner Lot: I know… corner lot homes come with some extra land. But, they also provide bad Feng Shui. An overwhelming amount of energy inundates corner lot homes, so they should be avoided at all costs. From a practical sense, corner lot homes also have more disturbances like car and foot traffic. More info…

⬜ No T-Intersection: Overwhelming energy is also an issue for homes at a T-intersection. This is especially true of those at the top of the T. You’ll notice also that such homes often have concrete blocks along their sidewalks. That’s because sometimes cars end up mistakenly driving right into the house. Avoid homes at a T-intersection. More info…

⬜ No Cul-de-sac: Cul-de-sac homes can seem great because the kids can play street hockey. However, if you want to avoid potential money and health issues, avoid buying a home on a cul-de-sac. Its energy sweeps through like a vortex. Headlights from cars turning in front of the home also cause a frequent disturbance. More info…
Home Surroundings

⬜ No EMF Radiation: If you’ve read my blog post on electromagnetic fields (EMF), you’ll know that we should probably avoid sources of electrical energy. Anecdotally, I have found that they disturb sleep. The jury is still out on several studies that may prove more harmful effects of EMF. Have you ever stood under major power lines and heard zapping or humming sounds that they emit? Yeah, I would just completely avoid homes near, and especially under, major power lines, cell towers, etc. If you can measure the EMF from the house, absolutely avoid it. More info…
⬜ No Cliffs: Stay away from homes at the top of a cliff. It doesn’t matter whether it is at the front or back of your home. While the view might be amazing, you just won’t get the positive energy you need. It would be better to have a home that backs up to a hill that is higher than your home. This helps capture the flow of any energy headed your way. Just make sure there aren’t any loose rocks up there!
⬜ No Large Bodies of Water: Avoid large bodies of water behind your home. This will douse your Fame & Reputation Area. Having a view of the lake or ocean in front of your home, however, is just fine because it supports your Career Area. Just don’t be right along the shoreline because that energy can be overwhelming.
⬜ Not Below Street Level: The vertical location of the base of the home compared to the street level is rather important in Feng Shui. The best scenario is if the bottom of the home is a little higher than the street level. We want to avoid homes that are lower than the street level because career opportunities will pass over you and because those homes are more prone to flooding.
⬜ Front Door Visible From Street: The front door should be clearly visible from the street. This ensures that positive energy can flow to your home. Objects like large trees block visibility from the street and therefore block energy coming into your home. If there is a small tree, see if there are any rules that would prevent you from moving it. More info…
⬜ Front Door Doesn’t Face Neighbors’ Doors: To avoid confrontations with your neighbors, make sure that your front door does not directly face any of your neighbors’ doors.
Home Shape Aligns with Bagua
⬜ Rectangular Shape: I only suggest homes that have a top-down view of the home that is generally rectangular in shape. This helps so that it can match with the Feng Shui Bagua. Otherwise, I would avoid purchasing it. More info…
⬜ Front Door Location: Make sure that the front door is aligned with the outside edge of the rectangular outline of the home. Avoid homes with recessed front doors. Any parts of the home hanging out beyond the door will be outside of your Bagua.
⬜ No Missing Sections: If there is a significant section of the rectangle missing (L-shape or C-shape, for instance), you are likely missing an important section of the home’s Bagua. The most common missing areas are the Prosperity & Wealth Corner and the Love & Relationships Corner.
⬜ No Protrusions: If a section of the home is protruding out (other than just the garage), that area will be outside of your Bagua. Anyone in that space would feel left out and any designated functions in those spaces, such as a home office, may be ineffective.
⬜ No Open-Air Courtyards: If you have an open-air courtyard in the middle of your home, you are likely missing an important section of the home’s Bagua for your Health Area.
Inside the Home
⬜ No Front & Back Door Alignment: Try to avoid homes where the front door directly lines up with the back door in your sightline because your energy will just flow right out the back. More info…

⬜ Front Door Energy Flow: If you don’t want your energy to go down the drain, you do not want to see a bathroom or the kitchen when you open your front door. When you open your door to walk in the home, you should not immediately face stairs, another door, or a wall because you want energy to flow more freely through the downstairs areas.

⬜ Bedrooms in Back: In general, all bedrooms should be in the back part of the house. This is especially important for small children in your family. If you want calm, rested children, having them see the street from their bedrooms might be counterproductive. More info…

⬜ No Spiral or Grand Staircases: Consider a spiral staircase to be like a corkscrew, harmfully digging into a particular section of the Bagua in the home or office. Because of their often-circular nature, any energy that flows up the left side of a grand staircase just goes right back down the right staircase, completely bypassing much of the second floor of the home. More info…
Next Steps
⬜ Make an Offer: Timing is sometimes of the essence when making an offer on a house, but that doesn’t mean you should rush through a purchase without doing your due diligence. Make an offer with an inspection contingency, during which time you can make sure that the house is perfect as a home. More info…

⬜ Schedule a Feng Shui Review: Contact me to schedule a review before removing contingencies. This way, we can confirm that there aren’t any other major issues to be concerned with before you commit to the purchase. More info…

Through my inexpensive Feng Shui Real Estate Review, I have helped thousands of people analyze homes they are looking to potentially buy to make sure they are getting a house with great Feng Shui. I also provide more thorough Feng Shui consultations for recently purchased homes without requiring investment in a bunch of silly trinkets. I can do the same for you with a Feng Shui Video Consultation.
