Feng Shui Skills / Knowledge / Wisdom
By Jessie Kim
I am a 3rd generation Feng Shui expert and have helped thousands of people improve their lives through Feng Shui.
If you landed here and are looking for Feng Shui advice on the knowledge area, then you need to read on.
Knowledge Corner Overview
Based upon the principles of Feng Shui, when improvements are made to the Knowledge Corner of your surroundings in combination with improvements made to the complementing areas, you can impact what you know and what you can do.
This area is particularly funny and should usually get some special attention in addition to other areas you are looking to improve. As an example, if you have poor wealth or health, it may not be because of deficiencies in those areas, but rather a deficiency in your skills of knowing what you need to do to improve your life in those areas.
Best Colors: Blue, Green, or Black
Not Just for Students
In Feng Shui, your Skills and Knowledge corner is located on the far left corner from your front door (when you are standing at your front door looking into your space, turn to your left, then look to the left corner).
This area is not just for students who are in school or for someone who wants to further their education. Rather, this area can be for life skills and better understanding through knowledge.
For instance, do you need to learn to manage your finances better as you currently make bad decisions? Interested in learning a new language? Want to change your career but don’t have the skills to execute that dream? Are you looking to have a better spiritual understanding of the world?
If you answered yes to any of these questions or could to something similar, then this is an area where you should focus some of your energy.
Metaphorical and Literal Symbols
As always in Feng Shui, use symbolism to improve your Skills / Knowledge / Wisdom Gua of your home or office.
As you can imagine, place objects in this area that will remind you of the things you wish to learn, understand and improve upon.
More generally, you can also display objects that mean wisdom and knowledge for you, such as a judge’s gavel, a chess game, Einstein’s equation to describe the Theory of Relativity, etc.
You can also have a tree or plant that will grow like your knowledge and wisdom over time.
Books & Libraries
For seemingly obvious reasons beyond just that of Feng Shui, books are great in the Skills / Knowledge / Wisdom area of your home or office. Therefore, it could be a great place for a library, a place for study and a place for meditation.
Try to use books that symbolize your current skills that you would like to master and those skills that you hope to learn.
You should also have pictures of historical figures who have achieved the pinnacle of success in whatever knowledge or skill you wish to achieve.
With books, you need light to be able to read. Think of it as shedding some light of the subject. Moreover, think of a little cartoon strip where a character comes up with a bright idea. Did the light bulb just light up? Be sure this area is well-lit.
Food For Thought
Food is a great item to have in this corner, so a kitchen would be just fine if it were located in this corner. All the food you buy and prepare here will become brain food.
Water elements are wonderful in the Gua pertaining to skills and knowledge, such as a picture of calm peaceful water or a water fountain. Think of this as your Feng Shui fountain of knowledge.
Small metal objects could also help here in some cases. For instance, you could have a metal bell for this Gua to get ideas as “clear as a bell.”
This area is represented in Feng Shui by the colors of blue, black and green. As mentioned before, objects in this area could include water and plants, which are represented by these colors. Try to go with furniture, frames, and accessories with these colors.
This is Your Brain on… Clutter
The worst thing you can have in the Skills / Knowledge / Wisdom section of your home or office is clutter. This is the area in Feng Shui that represents your brain. If this area is cluttered, then you can’t think clearly and you will likely make unwise decisions.
If you read newspapers daily, be careful not to leave them here when you are done or for long periods of time. Not only do newspapers have more negative stories than good ones, but this can cause information overload, mostly with relatively useless information.
Love, True Love… Here?
Believe it or not, the Skills / Knowledge / Wisdom section of your home or office is an area you want to boost with Feng Shui if you are looking to find true love. You can argue that love is all about heart but you might want to think again… use your head.
Love at first sight may exist, but you need to have the brains to figure out if this other person is “The One” and the brains to know what you want and who is right for you.
We all have a friend or relative who has fallen for someone and just isn’t thinking clearly. Don’t be that person. You need to know what you want before going out there and meeting anyone. Moreover, you need to know how to tell if someone is lying or if it’s true love.
So if you are looking to find true love, look at your Skills and Knowledge corner as well when you are throwing pink around in your Relationships / Love / Marriage corner.
Make sure you don’t have any objects here that remind you of previous relationships that didn’t work.
Include some books on self-help and relationships so you know how to love yourself and know how to recognize a healthy relationship.
Do you have a unique situation at your home or office?
Are missing the Knowledge Area from your floor plan or does it have a dangerous item, such as a bathroom, fireplace, stairway, or garage?
Are you looking to boost your knowledge and skills?
