Achieving Your Goals With Feng Shui

You’ve been dreaming of that promotion for a long time now – putting in extra hours, taking on more responsibilities and even sacrificing other commitments to reach your goal.

Feng Shui Career

While your efforts have matched the power of your dreams, have you wondered why the results are slow in coming?

The answer might lie in negative energy flow undermining the power of your dreams, undercutting your hard work and making you feel down.

Take a close look at your self-talk. Are you saying the right things to yourself? For instance, do you have funny t-shirts or posters that may subconsciously negate your intentions?

Now, take a look at your environment. According to the layout of your home or office’s Bagua, is everything in order to amplify your creative cycle? If not, it may be working to destroy your efforts.

Don’t despair; the answer to your problem is at hand. The right Feng Shui approach can work wonders towards helping you achieve your goals.

Power of Words

Words are powerful… and empowering. The words you use will help you harness the Feng Shui energy around you called Chi (or “Qi”) to be used to improve your life.

Regarding those funny t-shirt comments, don’t use words that you don’t actually want to apply.  They may be funny, but do you really want your kid to be “spoiled rotten,” “crazy man,” etc.?

Bad Feng Shui Baby Onesie

Even imagery can have negative connotation.  Having a baby in a skull & bones onesie, for instance, can be toxic for you and them.

The question is, how can you harness Chi to fulfill your goals?

One of the first steps is to note down your goals. Simple, right? Have you done it yet?

Better yet, translate your written goals into visual pictures using a dream board.

Now, place these written goals or your dream board someplace where you can see them daily to reinforce the message.

Be careful not to clutter your space with any and every idea you have. Instead, focus on what is most important and give it a place of prominence. This activity will ensure that you are constantly reinforced with these ideas, improving the energy flow and power of your goals.

The Right Environment

Your dreams might face obstacles due to negative flow of energy in your home or office.

Home Bagua Overlay

Use my website to help guide you to ensure you resolve stairway issues, have your desk setup correctly, and are using color and art to your Feng Shui advantage.

The Bagua of your home is broken down into nine distinctive Guas and you can learn about each of them on my site. Forgetting to give each area some attention will break down the creative cycle of your Chi flow.

After all, as per Feng Shui, it is vital to have the right environment if you are to achieve your goals.

Firing Things Up

Feng Shui Fame & Reputation

Is your Fame and Reputation Area fired up? Make sure this Gua is bright and supports the flame for your recognition.

This is one area, in particular, that I would not ignore. Give it special attention so that you, in turn, will get special attention from others.

Get Help from Others

Make sure that those around you support you and your efforts to achieve your goals. To do this, maximize your use of the Helpful People Corner of your home or office.

In fact, write a couple of notes specifically detailing how people will assist you. Write how your boss will notice your extra efforts at the office. Write how your coworker will start giving you the credit for your successes.

Now, fold up and place these notes in a silver box in your Helpful People Corner. Once your goal has been achieved, swap them out with new notes.

Keep it Positive

There will always be obstacles in your way. They will work to make your dreams more elusive than they actually are.

Dalai Lama

To counteract your obstacles, it might be helpful to reinforce positive and inspirational messages. Instead of thinking dark thoughts, it is more important to seek optimistic ideas and people.  In fact, like me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter to get some periodic inspiration.

Whenever you find a motivating quote that speaks to you, note it down. Better yet, type it out as your email signature as a friendly reminder. You will be surprised how much words can uplift you and your environment.

Next Steps

These are complex matters that need an expert to be addressed. So, even as you focus on the power of words to achieve your goals, it is important to ensure the flow of energy in your home and work space is perfect.

With that said, if you have a t-shirt like this one, get rid of it.

Feng Shui Cul-de-Sac Cures

It is well-known that the Feng Shui for a cul-de-sac home is bad. Though I typically advise against living in such a home, I have figured out how to make lemonade out of lemons (or good Feng Shui out of bad, in this case).

Feng Shui Cul-de-Sac Sign

In years past, home builders could charge a premium for homes at the end of cul-de-sacs. With more buyers aware of Feng Shui, that is simply no longer the case.

Unaware buyers may covet a home on a cul-de-sac because it provides a larger lot and reduced drive-through traffic so that children can play. Unfortunately, many of those who have lived in a cul-de-sac home have paid the price in more ways than one.

Basic Feng Shui Advice

When possible, avoid cul-de-sac homes.  It’s really that simple.

When I work with home builders, I advise against site plans that include cul-de-sacs, especially in Feng Shui aware areas, because they typically have to reduce their price to sell the homes. Moreover, city planners avoid them because they promote a reliance on cars, as public transportation is more difficult to service these areas.

If you are looking at purchasing a home on a cul-de-sac, I would advise against it because the overwhelming energy you will experience is chaotic and stale.

But what if you already own and live in a cul-de-sac home?

Most of my clients living in cul-de-sac homes came to me experiencing problems making and keeping money and have had poor health. Fortunately, I solved their problems, just as I will for you.

Own a Cul-de-Sac Home?  Your Options

If you already live in a home on a cul-de-sac, you have essentially two Feng Shui options:

1. Sell the home, likely to someone who is not aware of Feng Shui.

2. Harness and transform the Feng Shui energy flowing to your home such that it can nourish you rather than deplete you.  This isn’t the easy option, but it is sometimes the only option given individual situations.

I am going to focus on the second option so that we can work on some cures to your cul-de-sac Feng Shui.

Negative Chi of Cul-de-Sacs

First, let’s talk about why cul-de-sac homes have such bad Feng Shui.

While any home on a cul-de-sac is bad Feng Shui, the homes in the red area get the fastest moving negative Chi.

While any home on a cul-de-sac is bad Feng Shui, the homes in the red area get the fastest moving negative Chi.

Think of a street like a river, where water flows down from a source. Chi (or Qi) is water’s equivalent, flowing down a street from its source toward your cul-de-sac. Chi is Feng Shui energy. Just like water, it can be clean and refreshing or dirty and unhealthy.

Water nourishes while it also erodes. It provides life-giving energy to plants while also slowly eating away at the banks of the river. Chi works in much the same way, as it provides life-giving energy to you in your home, it also erodes your Bagua over time.

As water flows to a dam, it churns chaotically and over time gets stale. Sediment collects, creating mud that grows like a cancer. So, too, does Chi as it flows to a cul-de-sac. While the energy is worst at the home at the end of the cul-de-sac, all of the surrounding homes must share dirty, chaotic and stale energy that erodes at their Baguas over time.

Energy that makes its way into your cul-de-sac home is not calm, refreshing energy that you need to kickstart the creative cycle of your Bagua. Instead, it is fast, chaotic, used up energy that needs to be slowed, regulated and refreshed.

Energy Transformation

If you intend to live in a home at a cul-de-sac (or a home on a T-intersection or dead end), improve its incoming Feng Shui energy much as you would regulate and filter dam water for drinking.

Start by slowing the energy coming at your home. Do this by utilizing landscaping effects such as tall shrubs, walls, fences or even sturdy posts near your front curb (this also helps prevent unsuspecting car drivers from ending up in your living room).

Next, add some water and wind features between the tall curbside landscaping and the doorway. Try utilizing a pond, pool, birdbath, or water fountain. Any calm water feature will do. You could also add a windmill or other moving garden elements. Adding these elements filters and refreshes your incoming Chi.

You can use Feng Shui to protect your home from negative energy by adding strong posts and refresh the energy with a water feature.

You can use Feng Shui to protect your home from negative energy by adding strong posts and refresh the energy with a water feature.

Now, create a winding pathway from the cul-de-sac to your front door that navigates its way through the landscaping effects at the curb and through your water or wind features to your doorway. This re-creates the calm flowing river effect, with your new filtration system working to slow and refresh the Chi.

Ensure that your doorway and the front of your home is well-lit. Depending on your home, you may want to paint your door a particular color. These steps attract positive Feng Shui energy.

As I suggest with T-intersection homes, try using a convex Bagua mirror at your doorway to bounce away any negative energy that sneaks through. It doesn’t need to be visible from outside.

Feng Shui Convex Bagua Mirror

Place your convex Bagua mirror above your door on the interior wall facing toward the street. Yes, you won’t actually see the mirror.

Lastly, make sure you have followed all of the steps to Feng Shui the inside of your home according to the Bagua. Doing so will ensure that your career, relationships, wealth, love, health and all other areas of importance are well-nourished by your newly-refreshed Chi.

Next Steps

You deserve to live a life of abundant wealth and health.  Make sure that your home is providing for you.

How to Improve Bunk Bed Feng Shui

Bunk beds are an excellent way to save space and kids absolutely love them.

At the same time, there are tons of reasons why bunk beds provide poor Feng Shui, including:

  • Sleeplessness in the upper bunk because of the lack of support directly below the body.
  • Reduced energy or Chi getting to the lower bed because of the force of the upper bed on top.
  • The person sleeping in the lower bunk will feel inferior to the person in the upper bunk, potentially igniting fights between the two.

Even from a common sense perspective, bunk beds can be seen as potentially noisy and unsafe. I live in California, where it only makes matters worse!

Feng Shui Bunk Bed Cures

Thoughtful Boy With Soft Toy Lying On Bunk Bed

So, let’s move on to how we make bunk beds better for Feng Shui, because I think they can be a great way to save space, can encourage creativity for children and are simply fun. I get it.

Here are some tips to boost positive Feng Shui energy for bunk beds:

  • Ensure that the bunk bed does not squeak or rock when kids are flopping around on the top bunk.
  • Make sure the bunk bed is built tough, preferably from solid wood. A bunk bed built into the wall adds to the strength and stability.
  • Each bed should have a headboard.
  • Try to safely replace slats under the mattress of the top bunk with solid plywood (preferably pine). If you can’t replace the slats, at least add the plywood between the slats and the mattress.
  • Paint the bottom of the upper bunk or cover it with a fabric with calming colors, night sky, clouds, etc. Just make sure to avoid too dark of a color, as you don’t want your child in the bottom bunk to feel like they are in deep water.
  • If possible, get a bunk bed that allows the bottom bunk to roll out from the upper bunk during sleeping time.
  • Drape fabric over the bottom bunk to create a tent-like enclosed space. Some children aren’t ready for this while others will love the feeling of security.

Next Steps

Feng Shui is meant to help you add harmony and balance in your home. Make the best of the space you have by enhancing it with Feng Shui.

How to Position Your Bed for Good Feng Shui

Do you want some restful sleep? Are you looking to start each day recharged and full of energy? Then take some steps to make that happen!

Feng Shui Bed Cures

Bedroom arrangement is essential in Feng Shui. Much about your energy is determined by your bedroom and the position of your bed.

While you sleep, you recharge. The exact position of your bed can help charge you in positive, healing and loving ways or it can leave you feeling restless and drained. The choice is yours.

The points I make here are more than just Feng Shui cures, they are a blueprint for how you should arrange your bedroom.

Keep an Open Mind

The Feng Shui rules of the bed are simple. Being able to adhere to those rules, however, can sometimes get a little tricky. The location of your bedroom and layout of your room can sometimes put you in a bind.

The first step here is to have an open mind. Just because you have had your bed a certain way does not mean it should continue to be that way. Do you want excellent sleep and do you want to be recharged with positive energy every night? Then, you may need to make some serious and creative changes.

Bed Position

Bed Feng Shui -Bad

Next, we need to try to get your bed in the ideal Feng Shui position.  Keep these points in mind:

The best position for a bed is one where you can see the door from the bed, but you are not in direct line with the door (any door, if possible — even closets or bathrooms).  Energy enters through doors. Energy could be in the form of Chi, light, radio waves, etc. Redirecting and/or eliminating any of these types of energy can help you get better sleep.

Have the head of your bed against a solid wall (no windows or doors on the same wall).

As with doors, try not to place your bed in line with a window.

Keep energy balanced around your bed. If you have a nightstand on one side, have an identical one on the other side. Do not place a side of your bed against a wall, such as in a corner of the room.

Bed Feng Shui -Good

Bedroom Items

Remove mirrors that may be pointing at your bed. Mirrors produce too much energy for restful sleep and are often the cause of many types of body aches or health issues.

Avoid poison arrows, like the corners of walls or furniture, from pointing at you while you sleep. If otherwise unavoidable, block them with decor or furniture.

Avoid ceiling fans, as they create a cutting energy. Do you notice that you also wake up with dry sinuses and a headache?

Minimize exciting imagery and objects in your room. This is not the place to add a motivational poster with people skydiving, for instance.

If possible, avoid all electronics in the bedroom, including TVs, cellphones, alarm clocks, etc. I can’t stress this point enough. If you must have something electronic in the room, try only using battery-powered devices and keep them as far as possible from the bed. Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) may be very unsafe and are known to prevent restful sleep. I would even go so far as to recommend cutting off electricity to outlet wiring in the bedroom.

Now, add some things to your bedroom that will help you relax. Items that help with aromatherapy or a white noise machine can be incredibly helpful. Your choice of calming colors also helps immensely.

Love Heals

Don’t forget that your bedroom also represents love.

Keep things in pairs and use symbolism to represent yourself being in a loving relationship, even if you are single.  Make room for your partner or future partner.

When you get a chance, spend some time learning about the Feng Shui Love Corner, as taking some of the steps mentioned will help ground you, resulting in better sleep.

Next Steps

With some bedrooms, the above requirements will seem like they are next to impossible to achieve. Get creative when you Feng Shui.

For instance, if you have a closet door which is the only thing keeping you from your ideal bedroom setup, keep it closed when you sleep and cover it with a drape or a Japanese folding screen.

Still stuck? Sleep on it. Before bed, enhance your Creative Area and have a positive mindset that you will determine creative ways to make your sleeping arrangement more ideal.

This is one of those things that I think is essential in Feng Shui. Restful and recharging sleep can help you make the most of your life. Make it happen!

Remember to always think twice before you place an object in your home or office.  Make sure it won’t conflict with your harmony and balance.  Read up on the Feng Shui Bagua to make sure you have everything in order.

Feng Shui in Home Design

Ensure that you are using the appropriate element,  color, pattern or material for every aspect of your home design.

The five elements of water, wood, fire, earth and metal in their creative cycle.

The five elements of water, wood, fire, earth and metal in their creative cycle.

Feng Shui Elements

In terms of Feng Shui, the element is the central theme to many of the areas of the Bagua.

Thus, make sure that you utilize wood or something representing wood in the Family Area and earth in the Health Area.

Feng Shui Colors

The choice of colors is quite important because they often represent the elements and therefore the various areas of the Bagua.  For instance, red represents fire and is ideal in the Fame & Reputation Area.  Purple is the color of royalty and is best found in the Wealth & Prosperity Corner.

Feng Shui Patterns

Patterns can also represent elemental objects.  As an example, a pattern of wavy or undulating lines would best represent water and should be placed in the Career Area.  Patterns with circular shapes represent metal and thus the Creativity & Children Area.

Material Color Pattern

Feel free to take things quite literal when it comes to patterns.  For instance, you could use a throw pillow with dollar signs in your Wealth & Prosperity Corner, a pattern with sailboats in your Travel Corner, hearts would go with your Love & Relationships Corner, etc.

Feng Shui Materials

Of course, many materials are exactly the same as the elements.  A wooden hutch, for instance, would be best placed in the Family Area while metal furniture is best placed in the Children & Creativity Area.

Some materials can be a bit more tricky, but think of where they come from.  Fabric from cotton or linen is made from the earth and would be ideal in the Health Area, for instance.

Next Steps

Research and use some creative thinking when doing interior design.  The use of colors, patterns and materials can represent various elements that correlate directly with various areas of the Bagua.

Remember to always think twice before you place an object in your home or office.  Make sure it won’t conflict with your harmony and balance.

Feng Shui Your New Year’s Resolutions

2015 is upon us! Were you eager to ring in the New Year?

Ms Feng Shui New Year Celebration

I’m curious – did you write any New Year’s resolutions last year? If you did, how did you do?

According to Forbes, just 8% of people achieve their resolutions.

I personally don’t like to make resolutions.

As exciting as it can be to ring in the New Year at midnight separating December 31st and January 1st, I feel like every day should feel like you are ringing in the New Year.

Ring in the New Day!

Ring in a new day every day! After all, even January 1st is a new day, right?

A new day! How exciting is that? We get a new start every 24 hours!

Habits Die Hard… Resolutions Die Easy

Ms Feng Shui Frustration

When people make big resolutions for the New Year, they might stick with them for a couple of weeks… if they’re lucky.

But we tend to forget about our resolutions – we get lost in our old routine.

Life happens. Old habits die hard.

Just 8%, remember?

So why not take it one day at a time?

Keep It Simple

We all know what we want, but it is much simpler than we sometimes think.

I would argue that 99% of what we want is to be happy and healthy. It almost all boils down to these two things.

Want to lose weight? Healthy.

Want to get a better job? Happy.

Want to quit smoking? Healthy.

Want to manage debt? Happy.

Want to drink less? Healthy.

Want to take a vacation? Happy.

So, let’s break this down into manageable and achievable daily tasks instead of lofty goals that 92% of us will never achieve.

Make a short list of three to six things you would like to accomplish each day to be just a little happier and healthier than you were yesterday. Keep them simple and specific (call Mom, eat 2 servings of vegetables, write a letter to my best friend, organize my desk, walk one mile on the beach, smile during 50% of phone calls, read a chapter from real estate investment book, research Caribbean resorts, etc.).

Every night or morning, go over the previous list. Physically write “done” or “not done” next to each task. Next, write the small, achievable goals for the next day of activities.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Goals Grow Naturally

Ms Feng Shui Swimming

You’ll feel good about your accomplishments and will build your confidence in the process. You will naturally begin to challenge yourself.

With time, you will notice that the small and seemingly unimportant tasks sometimes become previously “unachievable” and life-altering tasks (volunteer 2 hours at a homeless shelter, run a marathon, write a guest article for my trade magazine, put in an offer on an investment property, book trip to Grand Cayman, etc.).

Feng Shui Resolutions

So for 2015, don’t overwhelm yourself with a long list of resolutions that you are unsure you can accomplish.

Instead, set a daily goal for yourself to start changing your life a little at a time. This is exactly what I tell my clients – don’t try to change everything at once because it gets overwhelming and you may give up.

Improve one Feng Shui Bagua area at a time – declutter the Career Area around your front door, for instance.

Then, move around the Bagua one area per day in a clockwise direction.

Next Steps

Feng Shui Clutter

Start the New Year by letting go of some “baggage.”

With either physical clutter or energetic clutter, you don’t have room for positive new energy or items unless you clear out the old ones first.

Seriously, eliminate unwanted gifts you have received over the holidays. Just because someone gave it to you, doesn’t mean you have to keep it. Donate it, sell it or throw it out!

Just as you can declutter physical objects in your home, you can declutter bad energy with a Feng Shui Space Clearing.
