How to Feng Shui a One-Bedroom Apartment

Feng shui is a traditional Chinese philosophy that focuses on the flow of energy, or “qi,” in a space. By understanding and manipulating the qi in your home, you can create a sense of balance and harmony that can positively impact your daily life.

One-bedroom apartments can present unique challenges when it comes to feng shui. The limited space may make it difficult to incorporate all of the necessary elements. However, with a little bit of creativity and intention, it is possible to create a feng shui-friendly one-bedroom apartment that promotes positive energy and well-being.

Here are some tips for maximizing positive energy in a one-bedroom apartment with feng shui:

One-Bedroom Apartment Feng Shui Tips

  1. Declutter and organize: The first step in creating good feng shui in any space is to declutter what may be blocking the flow of qi. This is especially important in a small space like a one-bedroom apartment, where clutter can quickly become overwhelming.
  2. Use the bagua map: The bagua map is a tool used in feng shui to divide a space into nine areas, each associated with a different aspect of life (love, wealth, health, success, career, etc.). By identifying the areas of your room on the bagua map, you can determine which areas you can focus on to bring balance and harmony to your living space. In fact, the bagua map tells you where to apply many of the points below.
  3. Choose the right colors: Color can have a big impact on the energy of a space, so it’s important to choose your colors wisely. In feng shui, the best colors for a bedroom are calm, soothing shades like blue, green, and purple. Avoid bright, bold colors like red and yellow, which can be too stimulating and disrupt sleep.
  4. Place the bed in the command position: The command position is the area of the bedroom that allows you to see the door while lying in bed without being directly in line with the door. Ideally, the headboard of your bed will be against a solid wall (no windows or other doors). This position gives you a sense of control and safety, and is believed to promote good sleep. If your bedroom layout doesn’t allow for the bed to be placed in the command position, you can create a faux command position by hanging a mirror on the wall opposite the bed to reflect the door.
  5. Incorporate plants: Plants are a great way to bring life and energy into a space, and they can also help to purify the air. Choose plants that are easy to care for and place them in the wealth corner of the bedroom (the far left corner from the door).
  6. Use bedside tables: Bedside tables are a useful and functional addition to any bedroom, and they can also help to create balance in the space.
  7. Drown out the outside: Use blackout curtains and a white noise sound machine to dampen the light and noise pollution attacking you from outside.

Next Steps

By following these tips, you can create a one-bedroom apartment that is both functional and feng shui-friendly, promoting positive energy and well-being. Your advice is wonderful, you are my inspiration for my own Feng Shui business. Thank you! I wondered what your thoughts are on having a single bed (due to space limitations) yet desiring to create a relationship (for which a double bed and two bedside tables would be more conductive). Curious on your take on this! Lots of love, Nikola

Thank you, Nikola, for your kind words! I’m honored to inspire your Feng Shui journey. In Bagua Feng Shui, a single bed due to space constraints won’t block relationship energy. In fact, I had a single bed when I met my husband, though my room was painted a horrendous Pepto-Bismol pink and I did have matching bedside tables. Enhance your Relationship Area with paired items, like two pillows or lamps, to symbolize partnership. Here are some additional tips for attracting a relationship. Viel Glück!
