How should I choose a Feng Shui consultant?

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice that involves creating balance and harmony in the environment through the arrangement of objects to improve energy flow. While tempting, using free feng shui tips online can be confusing and can sometimes seem contradictory.

If you’re seriously interested in incorporating feng shui into your home or office, however, you may want to consider hiring a feng shui consultant. Here are some tips for choosing a great feng shui consultant for you:

  1. Look for a consultant with a solid reputation and experience. If you know someone that has had success using a feng shui consultant, that’s a great start. It can be tempting to use someone rated on a feng shui rating service website, but remember that those may be sponsored ratings. Look for testimonials or get references instead.
  2. Consider the consultant’s credentials and training. Feng shui is a complex and nuanced practice, and it’s important to choose a consultant who has received proper training and has a deep understanding of the principles and techniques of feng shui. Look for a consultant who has received formal training from a reputable feng shui school or organization and who has a strong foundation in the principles of feng shui. Have they dedicated their life to feng shui or is this a weekend hobby that they took a class for last year?
  3. Consider the consultant’s fees and services. Feng shui consultants typically charge an hourly fee or a flat fee for their services, which can vary depending on the level of experience and the type of services offered. It’s important to understand the fees and services offered by different consultants and choose one who is a good fit for your budget and needs. Remember that you often get what you pay for, so don’t skimp if you want someone with extra experience and whose clients have great success.
  4. MOST IMPORTANT! Look for a consultant who is a good fit for your needs. Feng shui is a personal practice, and it’s important to choose a consultant who is a good fit for your needs and goals. Look for a consultant who is open and responsive to your concerns and who is able to tailor their recommendations to your specific situation.

By following these tips and doing your research, you can choose a feng shui consultant who is a good fit for your needs and goals and who can help you create a positive and harmonious living space.

5 Feng Shui Tips for Decorating Hotel Resorts

Decorating a hotel resort can be a daunting task, but incorporating feng shui principles into the design can help create a harmonious and welcoming atmosphere for guests. Here are 5 feng shui tips to keep in mind when decorating a hotel resort:

  1. Choose calming colors: Soft, neutral colors such as beige, light blue, and green can help create a soothing atmosphere. Avoid bright, bold colors, as they can be overstimulating. Just make sure to add the colors to the appropriate areas.
  2. Incorporate natural elements: Bringing the outdoors inside can help create a sense of balance and harmony. Consider incorporating plants, wood accents, and natural materials such as stone or bamboo into the design.
  3. Use symmetry: Symmetry is an important principle in feng shui, as it helps create a sense of balance and stability. When decorating a hotel resort, try to use symmetrical arrangements of furniture and decor. For instance, balance the bedside with two tables instead of one.
  4. Pay attention to lighting: Proper lighting is crucial in creating a welcoming atmosphere. Use a mix of natural and artificial lighting to create a warm and inviting space.
  5. Incorporate water elements to the front of the property: Water is a powerful feng shui element that represents flow and abundance. Consider adding a water feature, such as a fountain or aquarium, flowing towards the hotel resort entrance to promote a sense of tranquility.

By incorporating these feng shui principles into the design of a hotel resort, you can create a space that is not only visually appealing, but also promotes a sense of relaxation and well-being for guests. There is so much more to an integrative approach of feng shui in decorating hotel resorts to harness qi energy, including sustainability, directional alignment, the five elements, etc. You’ll need to consider feng shui in all phases of your projects, including site acquisition, site planning, landscaping, lobby design, room design, interior decorating, etc.

Cool Your Home with Feng Shui this Summer

Okay, it’s getting hot. Let’s cool things down a little, shall we?

The days are growing longer, so let’s make the most of them by adding in some relaxation and enjoyment through feng shui. My hope is to help you add a sense of coolness and tranquility, while nurturing feelings of peace and well-being.

Here are five tips that I provide my clients that you can use to bring renewal to your home with feng shui this summer:

  1. Use cool, calming colors: The colors you choose for your home can have a big impact on your energy. Especially during the summer months, it’s important to use cool, calming colors to create feelings of relaxation. Consider splashing in shades of blue, green, and purple into your decor, or use light wood tones to create a calming atmosphere. Don’t go overboard by painting whole rooms or anything crazy like that. I’m talking throw pillows, blankets, accent rugs, towels, etc.
  2. Incorporate natural elements: Properly-placed natural elements, such as plants and flowers, can help enhance the energy of your home and can create a sense of harmony. Add a small indoor garden or place potted plants around your home.
  3. Choose the right lighting: The lighting in your home can have a big impact on your energy. During the summer months, it’s especially important to use lighting that creates a cool, calming atmosphere. Open your curtains a little to bring in natural light during the day.
  4. Create a sense of openness: Summer is a time of relaxation and enjoyment. It’s important for you to create a sense of calming flow in your home. If you skipped out on your spring cleaning, do so now by getting rid of clutter and items that no longer serve you. Rearrange your furniture to allow for easy movement around the room, keeping your command position in mind.
  5. Nurture feelings of connection: I always crave a little extra connection and togetherness in the summer. Try getting together with others and have some fun. If you can’t get away on a vacation, try to host a regular dinner party, movie night, or a game night.

Beat the heat by applying these and other feng shui principles in your home. You’ll hopefully feel more cool and tranquil as a result.

9 Tips for Living in a T-Intersection Home

When I work with home builders, we often find ways to prevent T-intersection homes from being built. If you are already living in one, though, I know it can be challenging to many aspects of your life, including your health, wealth, and career. If you can’t move, here are a few simple feng shui tips to improve your life while living in a T-intersection home:

  1. Use a convex bagua mirror over your front doorway to deflect overwhelming energy from the T-intersection.
  2. Add fencing at the outside edge of your yard in front of your house, at least.
  3. Place heavy objects like boulders or deep metal posts in your front yard to block vehicles that might miss their turn.
  4. Inside, place furniture and décor in a way that promotes a sense of calm and tranquility.
  5. Incorporate plants, crystals, or soothing colors to bring a sense of peace to the space.
  6. Use blackout curtains or blinds at night to block out excess light from car headlights.
  7. Use soundproofing materials to reduce noise from the intersection and/or a white noise sound machine to drown out the noise while sleeping.
  8. Keep the home clean and organized to promote a sense of calm and clarity.
  9. Regularly practice stress-reducing activities, such as meditation or yoga, to maintain a sense of peace.

While these tips will help make things a little better, my first piece of advice is to find another home as soon as possible. If that doesn’t work, we may be able to use more advanced techniques for your particular situation.

Feng Shui Your Garden for a Tranquil Outdoor Space

What better place to create harmony with feng shui than a garden? Just imagine the peace you’ll achieve with your green thumb and a little chi. Here are a few feng shui tips for adding tranquility to your garden:

  1. Add natural elements: Carefully select plants and other natural features that represent the Five Elements of Feng Shui: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Each element has its own symbolism and energy and should generally be used along with the Feng Shui Bagua to create balance and harmony in your garden. For some examples of how to use the elements: fruit trees may represent wood; a small fire pit or red accents could represent fire; stones could represent earth; wrought iron fencing could be used for metal; and a small pond would represent the water element.
  2. Use winding paths and curved edges: Sharp corners disrupt the flow of energy, which causes tension. Instead, use winding paths and curved edges in your garden to create a more natural flow.
  3. Use color wisely: Different colors have different meanings in feng shui. For example, green represents renewal, so it’s good to use in areas where you want to encourage growth. Yellow can represent happiness, so it’s a good color to use where you want to create a cheerful atmosphere. Blue represents tranquility, so use it where there should be a peaceful atmosphere. Like with the elements, be sure to refer to the Bagua to make sure you are using colors in the appropriate places.

Use your gardening time and these feng shui tips to not only create a beautiful outdoor space, but also create some additional harmony in your life.

Feng Shui for Kids

Feng shui isn’t just for adults and their careers. In fact, I often help my clients improve their children’s spaces to create a positive environment for them to grow, learn, and have fun.

Here are some tips for adding feng shui into your child’s space, too:

  1. Choose the right colors: Colors have a big impact on our mood. Use soft colors like pastels and pale blues and greens to create a calming atmosphere in an area like a bedroom. It’s okay, on the other hand, to use more vibrant colors like red and yellow in an area that you’d like to be more stimulating, like a play room. Consider the age and personality of your child when choosing colors for each room where they’ll spend time.
  2. Place the bed in the right location: The bed is the single most important piece of furniture in a child’s room, as it is where they will spend most of their time. The bed should be placed in the command position, which means it should be positioned in a way that allows the child to see the door from the bed but not be directly in line with it. This helps the child feel rested, safe and secure.
  3. Keep the bedroom clutter-free: If your kids are simply all over the place, clutter might be the reason. Clutter can be overwhelming for children because it can create a chaotic energy in the room. Especially keep their bedroom organized and free of excess items like toys to create a calming atmosphere.
  4. Make the bedroom dark at night: It can be tempting to add a nightlight to a bedroom, but I advise instead to go as dark as possible. We generally sleep better in the dark. Light, whether coming from a nightlight or through a window, creates shadows and reflections, which can cause anxiety and disturb sleep. I highly suggest blackout curtains and otherwise block any light into the bedroom.
  5. Remove electronics in the bedroom: EMF energy from electronic devices can impact sleep, especially for children. If you want your kids to be well-rested, keep televisions, cell phones, computers, and other electronic devices out of the bedroom. My only exception might be a good quality white noise sound machine at the opposite side of the bedroom from where they sleep.

Implementing these and other feng shui recommendations will significantly help your children feel more balanced in life because they will be well-rested and energized at the appropriate times. Growing up is tough. Do what you can to help.
