Plants and Feng Shui

Feng Shui Plants -Money Tree or CrassulaIf you have dead plants in your home, throw them out!

If you are trying to bring them back to life and they don’t grow back within a few weeks, don’t hesitate to throw them out!

Dead plants, dried flowers, and empty pots are not good Feng Shui.

They represent death and weaken the energy in your house or office.

If it doesn’t look good, it’s not good to have it in your house!

Add some life to your home with living plants that represent what you want and put them in the right places.

Adding a money plant like a Crassula (pictured right) in your Wealth & Prosperity corner, for instance, would be a much better step than adding a desert cactus in your Love / Marriage / Relationships corner.

    Hi,
I’m a bit confused. I follow the Western Feng Shui style and my bedroom is in my wealth/abundance bagua which is the wood element supported by water. You have been the only person I’ve come across that says to get plants and water out of your bedroom, yet you and others state to have plants (a money plant for example) in one’s wealth area. What do you suggest?
    Confused,
    ~Susan

Excellent question, Susan. I know this can be quite confusing. Yes, plants and water are generally excellent for your prosperity corner. However, when a bedroom is located in your prosperity corner, plants can undermine your efforts in wealth or prosperity. Plants and water are both very Yang (active) energy items. Your bedroom, on the other hand, should be a very Yin (inactive) energy area. Having a very active item in the area where you need to rest up is not the best thing to do. Plants go to work at night as part of their respiration cycle of photosynthesis. Since your bedroom should be a restful place for you to recharge your energy at night your energy shouldn’t be used to fuel the plant.

The same argument can be made for water. Even if you have a water fountain turned off, liquids are, by nature, well… fluid. They move a lot, even when not actively flowing. In terms of Feng Shui, mirrors act the same way as water. Mirrors are at work reflecting energy at all times. Needless to say, I don’t recommend mirrors in the bedroom, either!

Being that your bedroom is the prosperity corner of your house, there are many other things you can do to activate the “wealth energy” without using plants, water fountains or mirrors. You can have your jewelry box there, your safe (just not under your bed), your coin collection, etc. Use whatever objects that mean money or wealth to you. You can also use colors, such as purple, gold, or green on your sheets, bed spreads, pillows, curtains, etc. For more information, read up on the Wealth Corner of the Bagua on my site.

Thank you for your question and if you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

I live in they dessert, my plants are always dry. I cut some branches and put them in a pot they look good give it the modern organic look. Do I have to throw them out??

    • Jessie Kim says:

Hi, Jacqueline! I’m not going to tell you that you have to do anything. As a feng shui consultant, I prefer the energy given off by living plants as opposed to dead ones and generally advise my clients as such.
